Tanu Island to Burnaby Island - Gwaii Haanas National Park and Haida Heritage Site

OverviewItineraryGetting HereTrip PreparationArea MapReservations

This trip travels the mainly sheltered waters in the northern section of Gwaii Haanas. This area is known for it’s quietness, and although it is nearer to civilization, it is often the least traveled area of the park.

Highlights include visiting the Haida village sites of T'aanuu Llnagaay (Tanu) and Hlk'yah GaawGa (Windy Bay), a stop at Gandll K'in Gwaayaay (Hotspring Island) for a soak in the hot pools, and perhaps if the tides are right, a visit to Burnaby Narrows, known for its density of intertidal life. Throughout this area, wildlife is abundant, and it is not unusual to see Bald Eagles, Black Tailed Deer, and Black Bear.

This trip does move camp daily, as with our other Gwaii Haanas trips, but also travels in slightly more protected waters than our southern trips. For those looking for a more leisurely pace, perhaps this is the trip for you.
